BELVIDERE — Richard A. Nagel, 80 of Belvidere, passed away on May 12, 218, at Park Place of Belvidere Nursing Home.
He was born Jan. 13, 1938 in Chester, the son of Paul and Mabel (Louise Ward) Nagel.
Richard graduated from SIU Carbondale with a music education degree. He studied cello and
conducting with Carmine Ficocelli, clarinet with Robert Resnick and piano with Steven Barwick.
Participated in the SIU Symphony, Concert Band and was assistant conductor of a musical performance. Inducted into Phi Mu Alpha Sinfonia.
Richard served in the United States Army with the First Armored Division where he was assistant conductor in the Army Band for two years.
He was music director for four years at North Clay School District in Louisville, IL.; Music Director at Amboy High School for nine years; employed with Rockford Country Club for 15 years and Mauh-Nah-Tee-See for five years.
Richard loved reading, listening to classical music and attended Lyric Opera of Chicago for 30 years.
Preceded in death by his parents.
Survived by his brother, Paul Nagel, of Belleville, and many cousins.
A very special thank you to all of the caring staff at Park Place of Belvidere Nursing Home. Also greatly appreciated by Richard were the cards and phone calls from friends, colleagues and formers students.
Per Richard’s wishes, there will be no public visitation.
Private burial at Paradise Cemeteries Inc. located in Steelville.
