AMBOY – Earl James "Jim" Bender, 70, passed away on August 23, 2024, in Chillicothe, Missouri.

A Celebration of life will be held from 1-4 p.m. Saturday, Oct. 5 at Amboy City Park. Family asks anyone who knew Jim to please come, eat, share stories and help them in honoring and celebrating his life. If the weather does not cooperate, the rain location will be 1489 Briar Knoll Road in Amboy.

Born on Sept. 2, 1953, in Dixon, to parents Helen and Allen Bender, Jim grew up with a deep appreciation for the outdoors and the values of family.

Bender graduated from Dixon High School, where he first developed his lifelong passion for the road which led him to a successful career as a professional long haul trucker. His work allowed him to indulge in his love for sightseeing across the country, yet he always made time for fishing, kayaking, and being with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A devoted family man, Jim's greatest joy was his children and grandchildren. He is survived by his daughter Theresa (Josh) Lance of Chillicothe, MO; son Raymond (Kasey Blackwood) Bender of Springfield, MO; daughter Annie (Matt) Albee of Amboy, IL; sister-in-law Shirley Bender of MO; and his four grandchildren, Liz Lance, Ava Lance, Damian Bender, and Mandi Ritter. His former spouse Angela Koch of Amboy Il. His loyal dog, Gracie, and brother in heart Roger Clayton also remain beloved members of his family.

Bender was preceded in death by his parents, Helen and Allen Bender, and his brother, Robert "Bob" Bender.

Jim's legacy as a caring father, grandfather, and avid outdoorsman will be cherished and remembered by all who knew him.
