Amboy School Report

Editor's Note: Amboy High School Principal Janet Crownhart has agreed to update the community on all high school activities throughout the school year. Every week, unless there is an issue in scheduling or a large amount of duties and responsibilities, The Amboy News will publish a weekly Amboy High School Report from Mrs. Crownhart.

After finishing the first week of school, students have finalized their course schedules, and most classes have started their first unit of instruction.

You can see the band practicing their march throughout the parking lot. We’re all excited to get to use the football field next week. The track should be finished next week, and we are happy to announce we have entered a sweepstakes through T-Mobile to try to win $5000.

Help us add to our entries by posting your photos to Instagram, tagging @AmboyILClippers & @tmobile, and then adding the hashtags #FN5GL & #Sweepstakes.

Homeroom conversations on Tuesday, Aug 27 will revolve around feeling uncomfortable and not being true to yourself when trying to fit in. Ask your high school student, ‘What excites you or makes you different? And how can you embrace those differences instead of repressing them to fit in?’

These are the questions students will be answering on Tuesday.

With the change to the ACT from the SAT, English classes have focused more on learning new vocabulary words, understanding them, and using them in sentences. Spanish class focuses on being able to speak the language by already starting to use some common phrases and acting out conversations native speakers would have.

Towards the end of September, Marquis Inc., an International Biofuel/green energy company in Hennepin, will discuss job opportunities in that industry and what training is needed. They will speak with juniors and seniors, and agricultural and science classes. If you have a company or know of a company that would like to talk with a group of students about a specific job field, please let counselor Mr. Kolton know, and he would be happy to set up time for someone to speak.

We welcome AHS Regional Office of Education Mentor, Abbie Holldorf.

She has been sending out invitations to parents of students who have been recommended to the program for any number of reasons. The program is geared towards helping students work through situations, peer interactions, grades, struggles at home, etc., that most teenagers experience at some point in time. It’s another adult in the school to help them process their emotions or thoughts and return to class as soon as possible.

If you would like your child to be considered for the program, please reach out to the high school office.
