SPRINGFIELD – Teen Turf took a trip on Wednesday, Aug. 14 to Springfield for the Governor’s Hometown Awards ceremony. Teen Turf was runner-up in a field that began with over 40 nominees.

“We were in the top four for the first time this year. There were 40 organizations in the mix, and we made the cut to the final four,” said Eileen Piper, the executive director of Teen Turf. “We were the smallest group involved. We’ve applied for it before, but we never got this far. Next week they’re bringing a sign to put on the outside of town.”

Madison County Challenger Baseball won the Governor’s Hometown Award. Piper said all of the final four contestants have the same goal, helping kids flourish and prosper.
