AMBOY — Rex O. Hicks Sr., 74, of Amboy, died Tuesday, Dec. 21, 2021 at CGH Medical Center. 

He was born Jan. 7, 1947 in Sandwich, the son of Earl and Geneva (Moreland) Hicks. 

Rex was an electrician and had worked for ComEd/Exelon at the Quad Cities Generating Station for 25 years prior to retirement. After retirement he had worked part time as a contractor at nuclear plants all over the country. He was a member of the First Baptist Church in Amboy where he had served as a Deacon and taught and was superintendent of Sunday School. Rex enjoyed riding and training horses, hunting, and especially enjoyed fishing in Minnesota with his family. Rex was known best for his love for his family and his love for others.

Rex married Linda Sivitis on Dec. 23, 1967 in Dixon.

He was preceded in death by his parents, one daughter, Melissa Sue Hicks and one brother, Carl Hicks.

Rex is survived by his wife Linda; children, Rex (Cindy) Hicks Jr., of Amboy, Todd (Amy) Hicks, of Amboy, and Carrie (Stacey) Merriott, of South Elgin; 10 grandchildren, Cody Hicks, Connor (Joelle) Hicks, Alexander (Bethany) Hicks, Garrett (Emma) Hicks, Jacob Hicks, Elisabeth Hicks, Benjamin Hicks, Adalynn Hicks, Sharon Ballesteros, Austin (Rachel) Merriott; and 7 great-grandchildren, Jackson Hicks, Ellie Hicks, Gabriel Ballesteros, Bianca Ballesteros, Lucia Ballesteros, Adaleigh Merriott and Lemuel Merriott. He is also survived by one sister Juanita Hicks of Amboy.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 27, 2021, at the First Baptist Church in Amboy with Pastor Rocky Fritz officiating. Burial with Military Honors will follow at Woodside Cemetery in Lee Center. Visitation will be on Monday from 9 to 11 a.m., at the Church. 

A memorial has been established to the First Baptist Church.
