DIXON — Maralyn Wood Zeman, 89, of Dixon, died Monday, May 1, 2017, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center. She was a life-long teacher and counselor.
Visitation will be 4 - 5 p.m., Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon, followed by a 5 p.m. memorial service at the funeral home with Pastor Tim Mitchell of First United Methodist Church, Dixon, officiating. Cremation rites have been accorded. Everyone is welcome to join the family following the service at Tryna’s home.
Maralyn was born March 12, 1928, in Sioux City, Iowa, the daughter of Ai “LeGrande” and Gwendolyn (Wallace) Wood. She married Paul Kirk Zeman on June 2, 1947, in Sioux City, Iowa. He preceded her in death on Dec. 2, 2015. She was a member of First United Methodist Church, Dixon, United Methodist Women, American Legion Auxiliary, Kiwanis Club, Golden “K” Kiwanis Club and was past president of Illinois Mental Health Association. She was a DeKalb Chronicle Columnist for four years.
Maralyn is survived by three sons, Edward LeGrande Zeman, of Woodside, David (RaNae) Zeman, of Belvidere, Jeffrey (Kathy O’Conner) Zeman, of Woodside; one daughter, Kathryn “Tryna” (John Baker) Zeman, of Dixon; one sister, Nancy (Robert) Ham, of Ramseur, N.C.; one sister-in-law, Annalee Felton, of Omaha, Neb.; nine grandchildren; and 19 great-grandchildren.
She was also preceded in death by two sons, Paul K. Zeman, Jr. and Mark Zeman; three brothers; and two sisters.
In lieu of flowers, memorials have been established to Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center and the Alzheimer’s Association.
