FRANKLIN GROVE — Laurence A. Clayton, 95, of Franklin Grove, died Friday, Dec. 7, 2018, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born March 14, 1923, at home in Lee Center, the son of Benjamin and Lena Amelia (Schmidt) Clayton.

He attended Lee Center High School, and grew up learning the skills he needed from his parents. Laurence was a lifelong grain farmer in the Lee Center area, also raising livestock, hogs and selling hay. He was very active until recently, driving his tractor. He enjoyed reading agricultural and medical periodicals. Laurence was a very charitable person giving to local non-profits as well as others outside the area.

He was a member of the Lee County Farm Bureau and the Franklin Grove Living History Antique Equipment Association.

He was preceded in death by his parents.

Survivors include his sister, Viola King, of Lake Wood Ranch, Fla.; three nephews, Dan (Bev) King of Racine, Wis., Dick (Leslie) King, of Greenville, S.C., and Jim (Freddie) King, of Topsail Beach, N.C.; his long time friend and employee, Paul (Melody) Hicks, of Franklin Grove; and his special friend, Janice Hanson, of Dixon.

Graveside services will be held at 2 p.m., on Wednesday, Dec. 12, 2018, in Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy, with the Rev. Rocky Fritz, officiating. There will be no visitation. Condolences may be sent online at www.thejonesfh.com.
