COMPTON — Carl V. Parton, 82, of Compton and formerly of Amboy, died Sunday, December 23, 2018, at OSF St. Paul Medical Center in Mendota.
He was born July 18, 1936, in Springfield, the son of Napoleon and Gladys (Langfield) Parton.
Carl was an Interior Communications Specialist in the Navy for 22 years prior to his retirement in 1974. He then enlisted in the US Naval Reserves for six years. After his career in the Navy, he was a Field Representative for Midwest Truckers Association for 13 years.
He was an avid bowler and bowled a perfect game. He also enjoyed fishing and golfing. Carl helped in the construction of Appalachia Lanes in Blairsville, Ga.
He was a member of the Springfield American Legion.
Carl married Delores Garvin in Curricutuck, N.C., on Jan. 15, 1959.
He was preceded in death by his parents, one brother, Leon Parton and one sister, Janet Smith.
Survivors include his wife; three children, Elizabeth Ridings, of Wood River, Denise (Vincent) Houle, of Compton, and Edward Parton, of Elnora, Ind.; five grandchildren, Jimmy, Katelynn, Courtney, Bryce, and Edward Jr.; two great-grandchildren, River and Bradyon; several nieces and nephews.
Cremation rites have been accorded. Memorial services will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, Dec. 28, 2018, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Amboy with the Rev. Barb Otten, Pastor, officiating. Burial of cremains will be at a later date in Camp Butler National Cemetery in Springfield. Visitation will be on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of service in the church. A memorial has been established.
