AMBOY — Betty J. Thompson, 80, of Amboy, died Sunday, May 12, 2019, at KSB Hospital in Dixon. 

She was born Feb. 28, 1939, in Amboy, the daughter of Earl and Alice (Andrews) Dewey.

Betty was a Registered Nurse. She worked for CGH, Amboy Rehabilitation & Nursing Center, in-home care and also over 30 years as a bus aide.

She was a member of East Grove Union Church in Amboy. She had taught Sunday School and led youth group for many years. Betty enjoyed gardening, bird watching, and most of all spending time with her family.

Betty married Robert L. Thompson in Hernando, Miss., on Aug. 12, 1957. He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 2015. 

She was also preceded in death by her parents, her foster son, Chad Wade, one brother, Clarence Dewey, and one sister, Elverta Dewey.

Survivors include her children, Brad (Victoria) Thompson, of Plainfield, and Bettina (David) Garcia, of Amboy; eight grandchildren, Nathan, Madison and Carson Thompson, Deryke Gallacher, Ethan, Elijah, Ryan, and Daniel Garcia; and two brothers, Richard Dewey, of Mendota and Robert Dewey, of Amboy.

Funeral services will be held on at 11 a.m., on Wednesday, May 22, 2019, in the East Grove Union Church in Amboy, with Pastor Rick Wulf, officiating. Burial will be in Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy with luncheon to follow in the Amboy Community Building. Visitation will be held from 4 – 8 p.m., on Tuesday, May 21, in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.
