Kaysi Jane Schaeffer, 17, of Eldena, passed away as a result of an automobile accident on May 22, 2024.

Schaeffer was born on Feb. 8, 2007 in Dixon. The daughter of Mark and Samantha (Dempsey) Schaeffer, Kaysi just finished her junior year at Amboy High School and was looking forward to graduating early in December.

Throughout her life she enjoyed playing soccer, volleyball, softball and spending as much time as possible with her friends. Kaysi loved and enjoyed shooting, fishing, hunting (when she didn’t have to wake up too early), “BIG” trucks and all animals especially dogs, cows and horses. From a very young age her life ambition was to become a veterinarian and she was working hard towards that goal.

Kaysi is survived by her parents, Mark and Samantha, siblings Kaylie (Xavier Contreras) Schaeffer and Owen Schaeffer, Alexis Dempsey, Jarrett Dempsey and Emilie Reed-Dempsey, and her beloved dog, Grady (aka her son). Paternal grandparents, Mark and Debra Schaeffer, Barbara Schaeffer. Maternal grandparents Roxane Wiseman, James (Lisa Hall) Wiseman and maternal great grandmother Nancie Dempsey. She is also survived by her aunts and uncles, Jamie (Sherry) Schaeffer, Heather (Jeff) Messer, Matt Kyker, Levi (Deb) Kyker, Sierra (Nick) Bennett, Skyler (Nate) McCoy, Karley (Joey) Bonnell, Seth Wiseman, Kyle Goldman, Melissa Lawrence and many cousins and amazing friends.

Visitation will be from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.

A lunch of Kaysi’s favorite food, Casey’s Pizza, will be provided at the Amboy Community Building following the visitation. Kaysi’s family asks that all family and friends bring a printed-out picture to the visitation of themselves with Kaysi to hang on a memorial board for the family to keep. There will be an opportunity at the luncheon for any family and friends to speak and share memories of Kaysi.

Memorial donations can be made to the Lee County 4H. Cremation rites to follow. Arrangements by the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy. Online condolences can be left at www.thejonesfh.com.
