Valery C. "Larry" Leffelman, 85, of Sublette, died Tuesday May 14, 2024 at his home surrounded by his family.
He was born November 30, 1938 in Sublette, the son of Charles and Mildred (Kuebel) Leffelman. Larry was an insurance agent and owned and operated Leffelman & Associates, Inc. since 1969.
Leffelman was a veteran of the Army National Guard and a 50-year member and past commander of the Amboy American Legion Post. Larry was a member of Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette where he had been a religious education teacher. He was a member and past president of the Independent Farm Insurance Agents of Illinois as well as a member of the Independent Insurance Agents of Illinois. He was village president of Sublette for 11 years and had been a member of the Mendota Knights of Columbus Council and the Mendota Elks Lodge.
He felt very blessed and was passionate about God and his family, community, and country. He had a legendary and unforgettable personality (Larry, the legend - "you're just saying that because it's true")
Larry married Rose Ella Bonnell on May 27, 1961 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette.
He is survived by his wife Rose, daughters Jennifer (Brad) Considine of Geneva, Christine (Ed) Klein of Sublette, Amy (Gerry) Staszewski of Hampshire, 11 grandchildren: Christian Considine, Emily Considine, Andrew Considine, Grant Considine, Nathan Klein, Valery Klein, Alexandra (Roger) Willey, Riley (Whitney) Klein, Grace Klein, Clayton Staszewski and Aaron Staszewski. He is also survived by one sister Diane (Jim) Flaherty of Mendota.
Larry was preceded in death by his parents and one brother, Eugene Leffelman.
Visitation will be held from 4-8 p.m. Sunday, May 19, 2024 at the Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church hall from 10-11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024.
Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, May 20, 2024 at Our Lady of Perpetual Help Catholic Church in Sublette with Rev. Randy Fronek officiating. Burial will follow with military honors by the Amboy American Legion at St. Mary Cemetery in Sublette.
In lieu of flowers, memorial donations can be made to the Sublette Fire Department, the Amboy American Legion, or to the donors choice. Arrangements by the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy.
