DIXON – Joan A. Christoffersen, age 88, of Dixon died Sunday April 21, 2024. 

She was born March 16, 1936 in Dixon the daughter of Lawrence and Gertrude (Fitzsimmons) Dempsey. Joan was a graduate of Catholic Community High School known as Newman High School. She owned and operated the Walton Tap with her husband Chris from 1962 to 1980.

Christoffersen also worked at the Dixon State School, owned and operated Gamut Liquors in Dixon, and the Fireside Inn in Harmon. Before retirement, she had been a waitress at the Town and Country Restaurant in Dixon.

Joan enjoyed many trips to the casino with her nieces Colleen, Rhonda, Kathy, Julie and friend Lyle. She was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon.

Joan married Harlan "Chris" Christoffersen July 22, 1961 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Dixon.  He preceded her in death Aug. 21, 2007.  She was also preceded in death by two granddaughters, one great grandson, four sisters Mary Trumble, Rita Schindler, Lenore Knoll, Arvilla Brechon, and three brothers Earl, Joseph and William Dempsey. Joan is survived by her children Jeff (Tami) Christoffersen of Amboy, Mike (Gina) Christoffersen of Dixon, Mona (Bradley) Daum of Dixon, nince grandchildren Jenni (Michael Eccles) Hermeyer, Joshua Christoffersen, Tara (Adrian) Medina, Magan (Christian) Welstead, Brody Christoffersen, Tim (Caitlin) Christoffersen, Luke (Jolinda) Christoffersen, Lindsay (Johnny) Witherow, Sydney Christoffersen, 19 great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.

Cremation rites have been accorded.  Funeral services will be held from 11 a.m.-2 p.m. Friday April 26, 2024 at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Burial of cremains will follow at Oakwood Cemetery in Dixon. Arrangements by the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Condolences can be left at www.thejonesfh.com.
