AMBOY — Ted J. Etheridge, 88, of Amboy, died at his home on Tuesday, March 15, 2022.

He was born on Sept. 3, 1933 in Amboy, the son of Lyle and Florine (Wheaton) Etheridge.

Ted worked for the Dixon State School, Schmitt Plumbing and Heating prior to his retirement in 1993, and was the City of Amboy school crossing guard for many years. He was a veteran of the Air Force serving from 1953 to 1957, a member of the Amboy American Legion, the Plumber and Pipe Fitters Local 25, past member of the Amboy City Council, and the Odd Fellows. Ted loved fishing especially on the Rock River.

Ted married Carolyn Lovgren on July 21, 1958 in Amboy. He is preceded in death by his wife Carolyn who passed on Sept. 14, 2012. Ted is also preceded in death by his parents; step father. Virgil Dewey; daughter. Tracey Etheridge; two granddaughters; two sisters, Helen Reed, Hazel Forman; and brother Dale "Mike" Etheridge.

He is survived by his children, Lori (Bob) Bumpus of Amboy, Jill (Hank) Groth, of Amboy; five grandchildren, Matt (April) Hood, Erin (Brett) Revenig, Andrew Groth, Daniel (Samantha) Groth, Nathan Rinard; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Joan Etheridge, of Amboy; and one brother, Lyle "Kerm" Etheridge, of Ottawa.

Funeral Services will be on Thursday March 17, 2022 at 11 a.m., at the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy with Pastor Rocky Fritz Officiating. Burial will follow at Prairie Repose Cemetery in Amboy with military honors. Visitation will precede the service from 10 to 11 a.m., on March 17, 2022 at the funeral home. 

A memorial has been established to Prairie Repose Cemetery Association.
