DIXON — Richard C. Montavon, 88, of Dixon, passed away on Friday, Jan. 12, 2024 at Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon, surrounded by his children.

He was born on Jan. 8, 1936, in West Brooklyn the son of George and Catherine (Boyle) Montavon. Richard married Joyce M. Nauman on Sept. 6, 1958 at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Joyce, on June 2, 2020; daughter, Ann Kathryn Montavon; and one sister, Donna Rapp.

Richard is survived by his children, Kathleen Rosignal, of Dekalb, Julia (Tim) Langan, of Peoria, Richard "Dick" (Susan) Montavon, of Oregon, and Sara (John) Stimac, of East Alton; 11 grandchildren, Jessica (Mark) Szachowicz, Jacqueline (Victor) Bomprezzi, Kate (Joseph) Vitucci, Mitchell (Amanda) Langan, Patrick (Dani) Langan, Natalie (Dino) Vitale, Lucas Langan, Bailey Montavon, Lauren Montavon, Megan (Rob) Stanfield, Jacob Spaniol; and 10 great-grandchildren, Colette, Sloane, and Ivy Szachowicz, Sienna and Victor Jr Bomprezzi, Oliver Vitucci, Richard "Beau" Langan, Logan Langan, and Jax and Stormi Stanfield. He is also survived by two brothers, James (Janet) Montavon, of Dixon, and Peter Montavon, of Sandwich, and one sister, Mary Jo Harms, of Somonauk.

Richard worked for Northern Illinois Gas in Aurora, owned and operated Rich's Place in Amboy from 1965 to 1972, was an agent for Country Companies for over 22 years, and in retirement he was a crop adjuster for Country Companies. He was a gifted singer who enjoyed singing at many weddings, funerals and any other occasion where he could share his beautiful voice. One of his favorite places was at the cabin on Dry Gulch, where he spent many weekends with his family and friends. His hobbies included golf, fishing and hunting to name a few. He was a member of St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon, the Knights of Columbus Council 690, the Fr. Boland Assembly of the 4th Degree, the Dixon Elks Club, and Moose Lodge.

Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024, at St. Anne Catholic Church in Dixon. Burial will follow at St. Patrick Catholic Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation will be on Tuesday Jan. 16, 2024 from 4 to 7 p.m., and again on Wednesday, Jan. 17, 2024 from 9 until 10 a.m., at the Jones Funeral Home in Dixon. Memorial donations can be directed to Kreider Service in Dixon and Serenity Hospice and Home in Oregon.
