TOWN & COUNTRY, Mo. — Lois Jeane Day died Dec. 29, 2018 in Town & Country, Mo.

She was born in Sublette, to Elmer and Myrtle Helfrich Stouffer on May 29, 1926 and was one of 13 children.

She was married to Richard “Red” Day for 55 years until his passing in 2000.

She is survived by one brother, Paul (Mary) Stouffer, of Dixon; her children, Rich (Debbie) Day, of Roscoe and Phyllis Day (Robert) Kessler, of Saint Louis, Mo.; her grandchildren, Kimberly (Dennis) Dawson and John (Carole) Day, of Dixon, Cindy (Bryan Taylor) Kessler great-grandchild Ginevra, Daniel (Juliana) Kessler and great-grandchild Penelope of St. Louis, grandchildren, Jason (April) Hartsig and great-grandchildren Austin, Bryce, and Lilly, grandchild, Bryan Hartsig, great-grandchildren, Isabella, Rocco, and Ellianna of Michigan; as well as many nieces, nephews and friends.

Lois and Red owned “Red’s Café” in Amboy, and cooking for friends and family was always one of her passions. She also worked at Beggs’ as a grocery clerk and Assistant Manager, and as Head Custodian at Amboy Junior High School – a job she took great pride in even many years after her retirement.

She spent most of her life in Amboy. When she retired to Osage Beach, Mo., she volunteered at Lake Regional Medical Center where she was lovingly known as the “Fudge Lady.”

When her first great-grandchild was born, she moved to The Fountains of West County Independent Living Center to be closer to family. She counts many of her neighbors and staff there as wonderful friends.

She was an amazing cook and seamstress. She loved crafts of all kinds. She crocheted and quilted many beautiful things. She learned to paint when she was in her 70’s.

After her retirement she enjoyed fishing and pampering thousands of hummingbirds. She was a powerful, independent woman who loved having her family around her to laugh with.

A memorial service will be planned in the near future.

In lieu of flowers, the family requests a donation be made to the Mason Point Assisted Living Floor, Amboy Junior High School, Lake Regional Medical Center, or the charity of your choice.
