LAMOILLE — LeRoy H. Klein, 94, of rural LaMoille, died peacefully at his home, on Dec. 13, 2018.
LeRoy was one of 12 children. He was born Feb. 10, 1924, in Mendota, the son of William and Anna (Schneider) Klein.
LeRoy attended St. Peter and Paul's School in Peterstown. He married the love of his life LaVerne Stenzel on Feb. 3, 1951. Together they have celebrated 67 joyful years of marriage and raised 10 children, Steven (Catherine) Klein, of Sublette, Linda (Robert) Cheeseman, of Ashton, Gerald (Linda) Klein, Edward (Chris) Klein, Richard (Teri) Klein, Douglas (Colleen) Klein, of Sublette, Carol (Michael) Elam, of Bloomington, Judith (Robert) Harvatin, of Allen, Texas, Ronald (Angie) Klein, of Oregon, and Pamela (Chris) Fieweger, of Warrenville.
They have 32 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren.
LeRoy was a lifelong farmer and the May Township Road Commissioner for 26 years. He was a long-time member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Maytown and a 75-year member of the Knights of Columbus. He served his country in the Army (Pacific Theatre) during World War II. He was a 4-H leader, a Poultry Superintendent at the Lee County Fair, and served on the Lee County Fairboard. He was also on the Board of Directors of the Lee County Farm Bureau.
LeRoy is survived by siblings, Harold (Shirley) Klein, of Spring Valley, Mary McCauley, Dorothy Wieman, and Bertha Sondgeroth, of Mendota.
He was preceded in death by siblings, Hilda, Raymond, Margaret (Biers), Gilbert, Edwin, Joseph, and Hilary.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Monday, Dec. 17, 2018, in St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Maytown, 1336 Maytown Road, Amboy, with the Rev. Richard Kramer officiating. Burial will follow in St. Mary's Cemetery in East Maytown with Military Honors by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation will be held from 2 to 6 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 16 and 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 17 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Maytown. The rosary will be recited at 5:30 p.m. at the visitation on Sunday.
In lieu of flowers, memorials can be made to St. Patrick's Catholic Church of Maytown or the Lee County Fair Association.
