Lady Clippers win 2 of 3, improving on season

AMBOY — The Amboy Lady Clippers won two of three games to improve their record to 4-3 on the season.

Amboy hosted Serena on Nov. 23 and the visitors came away with a 47-39 win.

Serena took the lead in the second quarter and led at the half. Amboy continued to close the gap, but never could get over the hump.

The Lady Clippers were paced by Olivia Dinges with 16 points and 11 rebounds, while she also dished out four assists. Also, Courtney Ortgiesen chipped in with eight points, Maeve Larson had six points, three rebounds and two assists, Elly Jones contributed five points and four assists, and Lexi Ketchum and Tyrah Vaessen added a bucket apiece. Ketchum also hauled down five rebounds.

Amboy pulled out a 40-28 victory at Pearl City on Nov. 30.

The Lady Clippers were down 10-8 after the opening stanza, but they nosed ahead by three (22-19) at halftime. AHS increased its lead in the third period and then outscored the Lady Wolves, 9-2, in the fourth.

Jones scored a career-high 18 points and also grabbed five rebounds for Amboy. Dinges posted nine points, eight caroms and four steals, while Ortgiesen added six points and four rebounds. Larson led the squad with six boards and collected three points, Haidyn Zimmerly had two points and two steals, and Ketchum totaled two points, four rebounds and two assists.

Amboy hosted the Clipper Shootout on Dec. 4 and defeated Orion, 42-20.

Dinges exploded for 11 first-quarter points on three three-pointers and she finished the contest with 16 tallies. She also had 11 rebounds, four steals and two assists. The Lady Clippers had good balanced scoring with three other players scoring at least seven points. Larson dropped in nine markers and had six caroms, Jones netted eight points, led with six assists and had three steals, and Ortgiesen collected seven points, seven rebounds and five blocked shots. Olivia Miller scored a basket and had a pair of steals, while Ketchum grabbed six rebounds from her guard position.
