MANLIUS – The Amboy-LaMoille girls’ track team will compete in six events at the state meet after they participated in the Bureau Valley Class 1A Sectional Track Meet on May 11 at Manlius.

The Lady Clippers qualified all four relays for state and also will send two girls to state in individual events.

Katelynn Pankhurst was one of the individual state qualifiers after she finished in first place in the long jump with a mark of 17-2.5.

The other individual qualifier was Ashley Althaus in the 400-meter dash. Although she placed third in the race, she ran under the state qualifying standard with a time of 1:01.09. She also established a new school record with that mark. The state qualifying time in the 400 is 1:02.15.

A-L’s 4x400-meter relay team had the best success on the day, crossing the finish line before any other teams with a time of 4:12.74. Making up the relay were Cassidy Corcoran, Pankhurst, Maddie Foster and Althaus.

The 4x100 and the 4x800 relays each took second-place honors. The 4x100 group of Cassidy Corcoran, Althaus, Sidney Corcoran and Pankhurst was clocked in 51.92, while the 4x800 group set a new school record with a time of 10:11.12. Runners were Kaitlyn Ortgiesen, Erin Hosto, Margaret Vaessen and Megan Grady.

The 4x200 relay was the other state qualifier after finishing third but running under the state qualifying time of 1:51.28. Cassidy Corcoran, Althaus, Sidney Corcoran and Pankhurst were timed in 1:49.5.

Bureau Valley claimed the sectional team title with 66 points, edging Milledgeville (64) by two points and the Lady Clippers (62) by four points.

The state meet will be held May 18-20 at Eastern Illinois University in Charleston.
