Lady Clippers come out on top in extra innings

Amboy and Durand battled into extra innings with the Lady Clippers coming out a winner, 6-5, in Northwest Upstate Illini Conference varsity softball action on April 16 at Durand.

Amboy trailed 4-2 entering the top of the fifth, but it plated three runs to take a 5-4 lead. Durand answered with a run to tie the game in the bottom of the fifth and the score remained 5-5 until the top of the eighth when Dani Hochstatter was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded to drive in the game-winning run.

Alison O’Rourke swung a hot bat with a single, double and solo home run. Savannah Ikens collected a pair of singles.

Bailee Highbarger was the winning pitcher. She gave up eight hits, walked one and struck out four.

Durand got revenge on the Lady Clippers with a 12-2 win on April 18 at Durand.

The Lady Bulldogs plated four runs in the first inning and were never headed. They owned a 9-0 lead through four innings before Amboy scored its only two runs in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer by Hochstatter.

Highbarger took the loss for the Lady Clippers, who are 9-3 overall and 5-2 in the league.
