The Amboy Lady Clippers continued on their winning ways with two more victories last week, including avenging the only loss they have incurred this season. AHS improved to a sparkling 22-1 overall and 8-1 in conference games.

Amboy traveled to Ashton for a rematch with the AFC Lady Raiders, which handed the Lady Clippers their only loss of the season in December. The nip-and-tuck game saw each team hold several leads before Amboy finally prevailed, 49-48, on Jan. 17.

AHS trailed most of the first half and went into the halftime locker room staring up at a 28-20 deficit. The Lady Clippers closed the gap to three (40-37) after three periods to set the stage for a wild fourth frame. Once Amboy got a one-point lead, AFC countered with a basket of its own and the lead changed hands several times. With the Lady Clippers in front 49-48, Fisher had her biggest blocked shot of her career that allowed Amboy to escape with the thrilling victory.

Payne led all scorers with 18 points as she provided two big baskets in the final two minutes of the game. Payne also handed out six assists, including to Donna for the final basket of the contest. Donna tallied 10 points, pulled down 10 rebounds and had six blocked shots. Powers contributed 11 points and had eight of them in the third-quarter comeback. Fisher also scored four of her six points in the third. Noelle Jones added a big fourth-quarter basket, had five rebounds and three assists, while Powers also dished out three assists. Althaus connected on the other huge basket in the final minute of the game and made major contributions on the defensive end of the floor. AFC’s best guard had 14 points at the half, and Althaus guarded her much of the second half and held her scoreless.
