AMBOY — Joseph T. Powers, 87, of Amboy, died Sunday, July 7, 2019, at Franklin Grove Living and Rehabilitation Center. 

He was born April 7, 1932, in Amboy, the son of Edward and Rosemary (Sharkey) Powers.

Joe had worked for Wayside Press/R.R. Donnelly in Mendota for 41 years prior to his retirement.  He was a member of the Amboy Fire Department for 19 years, was a lifelong member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, and was a long time Clipper Backer. He was also a Veteran of the Army, serving in Germany during the Korean War.

Joe married Elaine Herbert in Mendota, May 5, 1956.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, Kevin; four sisters, Rosemary Phelps, Betty Jahn, Rita Wilson, and Mary Catherine Hauskins; three brothers, Francis "Bud" Powers, Jackie Powers, and James Powers.

Survivors include his wife; three children, Mark Powers, Stephen (Nicole) Powers, both of Amboy, and Barbara (James) Berger, of Siloam Springs, AR; six grandchildren, Cain Powers, Delaney Powers, Elizabeth Luther, Blake Powers, Alexander Berger, and Mackenzie Kessel; and  three great-grandchildren.

Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:30 a.m., on Wednesday July 10, 2019, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy, with the Rev. Richard Kramer, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy with Military Graveside Honors by the Amboy American Legion.

Visitation will be held on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until time of service in the church.  A memorial has been established.
