PANAMA — John William Lusz passed away Feb. 1, 2020, in his home in Panama, after a courageous battle with cancer. He was surrounded by his loving wife, Peggy, his three beloved dogs, and group of friends including his pastor.
An official service was then held for John.
John was born Sept. 28, 1946 to Ralph J. and Kathryn (Dimmig) Lusz in Dixon. He went to Amboy High School and graduated with the class of 1964.
He spent the greater part of his life in the town of Petersburg, and later on a small farm outside Tallula, where he raised beef cattle and a donkey named Annie. He gave all his animals names and loved them like children.
John also participated in the lives of 17 children through foster parenting and hosting foreign exchange students. He loved children and when asked how many he had, his response was “I have 20 of them.”
He is survived by his wife, Peggy; his sister, Barbara; two sons, Parish and Ben; a daughter, Ann; four grandchildren; and one great-grandchild.
He was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Larry Dean and Bruce; and one niece, Dawn.
Peggy said John was the kindest and gentlest person she had ever met. She had lost her best friend.
A private family celebration of John’s life is planned for a later date and a memorial has been established.
Condolences may be sent to Barbara Stewart PO Box 453, Rochelle, IL 61068.
