LYNDON — John C. Taylor, 58, of Lyndon, passed away in his home surrounded by family Thursday, June 29, 2017, after an eight year battle with cancer. A lifelong love of cars and tinkering, John was a mechanic for most of his life. He ran the Oil Spot in Dixon for 26 years, until moving to Lyndon and opening the Lyndon Pub in 2000.
A memorial Celebration of Life will be held from 3 - 6 p.m., on Sunday, July 23 at the family’s residence in Lyndon.
John was born on Oct. 28, 1958 to Raymond Taylor and Mary “Marie” (Welch) Taylor in Rockford. He met Deb in 1973 and the two were married April 15, 1977 in the Harmon Methodist Church. John loved the Rock River, first learning to sink-or-swim in Grand Detour, raising his family for 20 years in Dixon, and finally moving to Lyndon in 1997 with the joke that he had always wanted to move west.
In his free time, John loved to travel. He enjoyed family vacations to Door County, spending time with friends in Arizona, and his daughter in California. He loved making his grandkids laugh with his Grandpa Jokes (like telling them that he was responsible for ordering snow), refurbishing antiques, and working on his 1960 Impala.
John is survived by his wife, Deborah Taylor, of Lyndon; one daughter, Kelly (Shane) Fanning, of Austin, Texas; two sons, Andrew (Sarah) Taylor, and Patrick Taylor, of Lyndon; six grandchildren Jacob, Ethan and Rachael Taylor, Aidan and Logan Fanning, and Ashlynn Taylor; four step-grandchildren, Donovan Peterson, Kassandra Smith, Cassidy Wade, and Cayden Tarbill; one sister, Elizabeth (Maurice) Philips, of Madera, Calif.; three nephews, Matthew Eykamp Portsmouth Va., Mark (Janine) Eykamp and Mike (Cherie) Eykamp, of Dixon; one niece, Lisa (Richy) Jackson, of Jacksonville; and many nieces, and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents; four brothers, Rich, Kenny, James and Michael Taylor; and one sister, Donna Eykamp.
A special thank you to Vitas Hospice and Heartland Hospice for their loving care and support. Also thank you to Preston-Shilling Funeral Home for all of the arrangements.
Memorials have been established to Home of Hope in Dixon.
