Emagene Mae Hummel


DIXON — Emagene Mae Hummel, 91, of Dixon, died Friday, Sept. 15, 2017, at Heritage Square in Dixon. She was a loving farm wife, devoted mother, and cherished grandma. She had earned the distinctive title of “Domestic Artisan.”

Visitation will be from 4-7 p.m., on Wednesday, Sept. 20, 2017, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon. Funeral services will be 10:30 a.m., on Thursday, Sept. 21, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

Emagene was born May 30, 1926, in Walnut, the daughter of Merlin and Lydia (Meyer) Pinegar.  She married Charles Andrew Hummel on Sept. 18, 1948, at Grace Evangelical United Brethren Church in Dixon. He preceded her in death on April 20, 2014, after 65 years of marriage. 

Charles and Emagene will be celebrating their anniversary together in heaven today. Emagene was a life-time member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon. She was very involved in the community serving as a volunteer at the Food Pantry in Dixon for 28 years, at KSB Hospital in Dixon as a Pink Lady for 30 years, Meals on Wheels in Lee County for many years, and also served as an election judge for South Dixon Township for 37 years. 

She is survived by her five children, Richard (Tina) Hummel, Patti (Jim Valenti) Hey, Larry (Kimberly) Hummel, all of Dixon, Diane (Edward) Conroy, of Byron, and Brenda (Mike Wolfe) Pinzon, of Dixon; one sister-in-law, Barbara Pinegar; 20 grandchildren; and 29 great-grandchildren. 

She was also preceded in death by her granddaughter, Roxylanie Hey; and one brother, Donald “Don” Pinegar.

Memorials have been established to the Dixon Food Pantry and Buddy Bags of Dixon.
