Clippers split double headed with Milledgeville to start season

AMBOY – The Amboy Clippers split a double-header with Milledgeville to start the season on March 21. Both games featured walk-off finishes.

In the opener, the Clippers needed 10 innings to finish off the Missiles, 8-7, at City Park.

Leading the Amboy attack were Clayton Kemp with three singles and a double, Hunter Zimmerly with two singles and Mitchell McLaughlin with a double and a triple. Lane Boehle delivered a clutch run-scoring single to end the game in the bottom of the 10th.

Zimmerly was the starting pitcher and he worked 4 2/3 innings before giving way to Logan Whelchel, who got the win.

Game two ended with a 5-4 Milledgeville win.

Maverick Lindenmeyer singled twice for the Clippers, while Boehle also had two singles and an RBI.

Amboy dropped both games of a double-header with Westmont on March 23 at City Park.

In game one, Westmont scored six runs in the first inning en route to a 12-1 victory.

Kemp, McLaughlin and Hayden Montavon each had one hit for the Clippers.

Montavon started on the hill and struggled in the first inning before being replaced by Mason McCoy, who worked 4 1/3 innings in relief.

The Clippers were on the short end of a 12-4 scored in the second game of the twinbill.

Amboy (1-3, 1-1) collected eight hits, including a pair of doubles and a RBI by Kemp and two singles and a run batted in by Zimmerly.

Lindenmeyer got the call on the mound and allowed four hits and three runs over three innings. Boehle and Kemp also had stints on the hill.
