Clippers open with two losses to Forreston

AMBOY — The Amboy Clippers opened the baseball season with a 17-1 loss to Forreston on May 4 at the Amboy field.

Forreston scored a pair of runs in the first and Amboy answered with one in the bottom of the inning, but that proved to be the only run of the game for the Clippers. Meanwhile, Forreston was far from through as it added four runs in the third and six more in the fourth to pull away.

Brady Jones paced the Clipper offense with two hits and Ian Eller added a safety.

Andruw Jones was the starting pitcher for Amboy and he took the loss.

The two teams met again on May 6 at Forreston and the result was a 12-0 victory for the home team.

Forreston sent 12 batters to the plate in the first inning and eight of them scored.

Andruw Jones collected a pair of hits for the Clippers.

Lena-Winslow scored early and often in taking down the Clippers, 20-8, on May 8 at the Amboy field.

The visitors held a 5-0 lead after their first two times at-bat before Amboy batted around and tied the score with five in the bottom of the second. Brian Murphy and Preston Henkel each had two-run singles, while Andruw Jones singled in the other run.

The Panthers broke the tie with a pair of runs in the top of the third, and then they tacked on three in the fifth, four in the sixth and six more in the seventh.

Amboy pushed across two runs in the fifth inning and one in the seventh.

The Clippers had 11 hits in the contest, with Murphy picking of three and Andruw Jones two.

Henkel got the start on the mound and was tagged with the loss.
