Clippers drop two games at Warkins Tournament in Erie

AMBOY — The Amboy Clippers dropped two games in the Warkins Tournament at Erie on Dec. 29-30.

Amboy opened the tournament with a 59-39 loss to Morrison on Dec. 29. The Mustangs galloped out to a 15-0 lead after the opening stanza and cruised to the victory.

Ian Eller topped the Clipper scoring chart with 12 points, followed by Brennan Blaine with 11 and Tucker Lindenmeyer with nine.

Orion downed the Clippers, 55-45, on Dec. 30. The Chargers grabbed a 17-9 lead in the first quarter. Amboy closed the gap to three (41-38) after three frames, but Orion doubled up the score on the Clippers in the fourth (14-7) to claim the win.

Blaine paced the Clipper scoring attack with 20 points, while Connor Simpson provided 14 tallies. Lindenmeyer chipped in with eight markers.

Points were hard to come by for Amboy in a 51-23 setback to Eastland on Jan. 4 at the AHS gym.

The Cougars raced to a 17-3 advantage after the first quarter and held a 31-14 margin at intermission. Amboy could only muster nine points in the second half, including just two in the final period.

Eller and Blaine led Amboy with eight points apiece.
