The Amboy wrestling team had a tough time against annual juggernaut Byron on Tuesday, Dec. 19, but bounced back with a strong showing in a Riverdale quadrangular on Wednesday, Dec. 20.
Amboy fell to Byron 60-18 with points coming from 175-pound senior Lucas Blanton pinning Issac Alvarez in 3:59 and 126-pound sophomore Landon Blanton pinning Hunter King in 1:39.
In the quad, Amboy defeated Marquette 36-24, but lost to Kewanee 66-18, and Riverdale 57-18.
In the win over Marquette, freshman Jose Lopez earned a fall in 1:20 against Nolan Demink at 150 pounds, Lucas Blanton earned a 7-1 decision at 175 pounds over Alex Schaefer, 215-pound freshman Evan Flanagan pinned Jacob Schredeya in 2:20, freshman Ty Florscheutz pinned Shea Conner in 3:00 at 106 pounds, Landon Blanton beat Beau Thompson via a 7-0 decision at 120 pounds, and 132-pound sophomore Chase Montavon won by forfeit.
Against Kewanee, Florschuetz pinned Gideon Richards at 106 pounds, Landon Blanton secured a fall victory over Landyn Greenhagen at 120 pounds, and Montavon pinned Hunter Vancil at 126.
Flanagan scored with a 2:20 pin over Jacob Schredeya, freshman Chase Huggins recorded a fall in 4 minutes against Cole Barrett, and 138-pound freshman Caiden Heath pinned Caden Foster in 1:50 against Riverdale.
Amboy will compete against Sandwich and Genoa-Kingston in a Sandwich Triangular at 5:30 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 2.
