DIXON — Betty R. Fish, 89, of Dixon, died Monday, Oct. 16, 2017, at Serenity Hospice & Home in Oregon. She was a 1948 graduate of Dixon Public Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse, and continued her employment with Katherine Shaw Bethea Hospital in the Obstetrics unit for 45 years, prior to her retirement.
Visitation will be from 3 – 6 p.m., on Thursday, Oct. 19, 2017, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home in Dixon. Funeral services will be at 10 a.m., on Friday, Oct. 20, 2017, at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Dixon, with the Rev. Joseph O’Donnell, pastor, officiating. Burial will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
Betty was born Jan. 7, 1928, in Brooten, Minn., the daughter of Hans and Gena (Holverson) Lea. She married Gene A. Fish on Jan. 25, 1948, in Dixon. He preceded her in death on June 21, 2000. Betty volunteered her time with the Dixon Food Pantry and Meals on Wheels for many years, and was a member of W.E.L.C.A. and the St. Paul’s Women’s Circle in Dixon.
She loved gardening, traveling, and was a huge Chicago Cubs fan. Betty is survived by one daughter, Gina (Kenneth) Boone; and one son, Daniel (Shannon) Fish, both of Dixon; four grandchildren, Daniel Ryan (Lindsey) Fish, Amanda (Daniel) Friedrich, Kayla (Andy) South, Kyle (Katie) Boone; and three great-grandchildren, Luke South, Julia Boone, and Isabelle Fish.
She was also preceded in death by three sisters; and one brother.
