As usual, the Amboy wrestling team grappled on many mats this week as they hosted West Carroll on Thursday, Dec. 14 and competed in the Stillman Valley Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 16.

Lucas Blanton wins 175-pound bracket at Stillman Valley

As usual, the Amboy wrestling team grappled on many mats this week as they hosted West Carroll on Thursday, Dec. 14 and competed in the Stillman Valley Tournament on Saturday, Dec. 16.

The Clippers defeated West Carroll 41-12.

Sophomore Chase Montavon secured a pin in 45 seconds at 126 pounds against Brody Leitzen and senior Lucas Blanton earned a 17-2 technical fall victory at 175 against Ben Fieck.

Earning forfeit points for Amboy were freshman Ty Florschuetz (106), freshman Chase Huggins (113), junior Tyler Huggins (132), freshman Jose Lopez (138), and freshman Evan Flanagan (215).

Lucas Blanton continued his success at the Stillman Valley Tournament as he stood atop the 175-pound bracket with a 13-0 major decision victory in the semifinals against Marengo’s Connor Sacco and a 11-4 decision in the championship against Oregon’s Andrew Young.

Sophomore Landon Blanton wasn’t feeling well but was able to secure fourth place on the 120-pound podium.

The Amboy wrestling team have two more meets before the next edition of Amboy News and the new year.

The Clippers travel to Byron on Tuesday, Dec. 19 to take on the Tigers and to a triangular on Wednesday, Dec. 20 to face the home team the Riverdale Rams and the Kewanee Boilermakers.
