AMBOY — Scoring droughts in the first and fourth quarters hindered the Amboy Clippers in a 55-40 loss to Milledgeville in varsity boys’ basketball action on Jan. 18 at the AHS gym.

Connor Simpson’s three-pointer in the first period was all the offense Amboy could muster in the eight-minute session as Milledgeville took an 11-3 lead to the second quarter.

The Clippers put two good back-to-back quarters together and were within striking distance heading to the fourth, 40-34, but they managed just two field goals and two free throws in the final stanza while the Missiles pumped in 15 points.

Tucker Lindenmeyer paced the Clipper scoring attack with 13 points, while Simpson and Brennan Blaine had eight points apiece. Ian Eller chipped in with seven markers.

Amboy’s offense struggled again in a 52-28 loss at Stockton on Jan. 22.

The Clippers hung tough through the first half, trailing 13-9 after one and 24-20 at intermission. But Amboy managed only eight second-half points, including just one tally in the third period, while Stockton put up 28 points over the final two frames.

Blaine (13 points) and Kyler McNinch (10 points) led the way for the Clippers.
