Lady Clippers move to 7-1 overall after three wins last week

AMBOY — Amboy and Polo went to extra innings and the Lady Clippers prevailed, 10-4, in varsity softball action on April 2 at Polo.

Polo held a 4-1 lead until the sixth when Amboy struck for three runs to tie the game. The contest went to extra innings and the Lady Clippers exploded for six runs in the top of the ninth to earn the victory.

Savannah Ikens had a huge day at the plate with a three-run home run and a solo homer. She drove in four runs. Gabby Jones socked two doubles and drove in a pair, while Bailee Highbarger and Dani Hochstatter both singled twice. Highbarger had an RBI.

Highbarger was the winning pitcher. She allowed six hits, walked three and struck out 12.

The Lady Clippers claimed a double-header victory at Indian Creek on April 6.

In game one, Amboy blanked the Timberwolves, 4-0.

Highbarger fired a no-hitter and struck out 10 in picking up the win. She allowed just one walk.

Alison O’Rourke hammered a solo home run, while Highbarger, Hochstatter and Ikens had two singles apiece.

Amboy scored all of its runs in the first inning.

Game two went to Amboy by a 7-2 count. A three-run first propelled the Lady Clippers.

Kyleigh Donna collected two singles and a double for Amboy, while O’Rourke recorded three singles and Hochstatter added a pair of singles.

Highbarger also got the pitching win in the nightcap, allowing six hits, one walk and striking out nine.

Amboy is 7-1 overall and 4-0 in conference play.
