On paper it looked like a mismatch. But the Amboy Lady Clippers had none of that as they defeated previously unbeaten Newark, 47-42, on Dec. 2 in the Amboy Shootout.

Lady Clippers earn win against Newark

On paper it looked like a mismatch. But the Amboy Lady Clippers had none of that as they defeated previously unbeaten Newark, 47-42, on Dec. 2 in the Amboy Shootout.

Abi Payne was the leading scorer with 16 points and she led with five assists. Noelle Jones provided 13 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists, while Kallie Appleman collected six rebounds, had three steals and scored five points. Also, Logan Winters pulled down six caroms and had four points, Rachel Lachat chipped in with six points and had two steals. Lachat had four of her points in the final quarter to help seal the win.

Amboy and Ashton-Franklin Center always manage to play close games, and the two teams did again on Dec. 8 at Ashton. Unfortunately for the Lady Clippers, they came up on the short end of a 36-30 score.

Kelsey Stewart dropped in nine points to lead Amboy and Jones led with 10 rebounds. Jones also scored eight points and Payne had seven tallies.

The Lady Clippers (4-6) only shot 24 percent in the contest (13 of 55) and went to the free throw line just four times.
