AMBOY – The Amboy baseball team kicked off a double header against Northwest Upstate Illini Conference opponent Eastland with a win, 8-7, on Friday, April 19 but couldn’t hold on in the second contest in a 14-6 defeat.

Another tally found its way into the loss column, 10-1, on Saturday, April 20 against Serena.

All three games were at home.

In the victory over Eastland, the Clippers scored six runs in the first inning behind the first six batters in senior Landon Montavon, junior Eddie Jones, junior Quinn Leffelman, senior Landon Montavon, junior Carson Barlow, and junior Dillon Merriman.

Leffelman and Montavon added insurance runs in the fifth inning.

The insurance was needed as Eastland scored five runs in the third inning, one run in the fourth, and one in the fifth.

Amboy fell short in Game 2 of the DH but not because of lack of scoring as Whelchel crossed home plate twice, while Jones, Montavon, Merriman, and senior Cole Larson scored.

Montavon kept his scoring streak for the week alive as he scored Amboy’s lone run in the loss to Serena.
