If winning close games is considered a measure of being a good team, the Amboy softball team is a solid team indeed as it won three games in the last week by a combined total of four runs.
The streak started Tuesday, April 9 when Amboy beat Polo 5-3 in Amboy.
Sophomore Alyvia Whelchel was the winning pitcher with 11 strikeouts, seven walks, and eight hits.
At the plate, junior Tyrah Vaessen was 2-of-4 with two doubles, sophomore Kiara Karlson was 1-of-4 with a single, and sophomore Peyton Payne was 1-of-2 with a single.
Two days later, Thursday, April 11, the Lady Clippers defeated Northern Upstate Illini Conference foe, the Marcos, 8-7 in Polo.
Sophomore Ellie Mclaughlin picked up the win in the circle with five strikeouts, eight hits, and two walks.
Karlson crushed the ball 4-of-5 at-bats with a triple, a double, and two singles, while Payne was 2-of-4 with a double and a single, and freshman Leighton Gulley was 3-of-4 with three singles.
Amboy (7-4, 4-0 NUIC) tallied another conference victory on Monday, April 15, 6-5, over Forreston.
Mclaughlin earned another win in the circle on 10 strikeouts, six walks, and three hits.
Sophomore Brittlyn Whitman was 2-of-2 with two singles and an RBI at the plate, while Vaessen was 2-of-4 with a double and a single, Karlson was 2-of-4 with two singles, and senior Addison Shaw hit a triple and a single on 2-of-3 hitting.
