Amboy cross country seniors honored

AMBOY — The Amboy boys’ cross country team won a quadrangular meet with Polo, Eastland and Hall on Sept. 29 at Shady Oaks Country Club.

The Clippers had 18 points, followed by Polo with 52 and Eastland with 63. Hall did not field a full team.

Brock Loftus took the top spot in the race with a time of 15:53.8, while teammate Ian Eller was second through the chute in 17:16.7. Also finishing in the top 10 were Amboy runners Charlie Dickinson (4th, 18:13.5), Andruw Jones (5th, 18:16.9), Atticus Horner (6th, 18:50.7), Wyatt Lundquist (8th, 18:57.4) and Kelton Schwamberger (10th, 19:05.1).

Others participating for the Clippers were Garrett Pertell (11th, 19:55.7), Hayden Zacharias (12th, 19:56.8), Ryan Dickinson (14th, 20:49) and Jaden Haley (15th, 21:04.1).

AHS’s Lauren Althaus won the girls’ race in a time of 21:09.8. Elly Jones was next in for the Lady Clippers (3rd, 23:08.3), followed by Natalie Pratt (7th, 27:41.1) and Addison Pertell (9th, 29:03.2). There were no team scores.

Amboy competed in the Augustana College Invitational on Oct. 1 at Saukie Golf Course in Rock Island and both teams finished second in the team standings.

For the boys, the Clippers scored 43 points and were only bested by Riverdale, which had 28 points. Newman (54) and Rockridge (120) placed behind AHS.

Loftus was the second runner to cross the finish line with a time of 15:53.2. Riverdale’s Tommy Murray won the individual title with a clocking of 15:39.5. Amboy had two other runners place in the top seven. Eller was fifth in a time of 16:39.6, while Kyler McNinch took seventh in 17:22.7.

Eight other Clippers raced in the event. They were Charlie Dickinson (15th, 18:26.5), Horner (16th, 18:33.1), Lundquist (17th, 18:34.5), Jones (18th, 18:36.2), Schwamberger (22nd, 19:07.8), Garrett Pertell (25th, 19:23.2), Zacharias (29th, 19:42.1) and Haley (34th, 20:51.9).

In the girls’ event, the Lady Clippers tallied 41 points to take second in the team standings behind Cambridge, which had 31. Rockridge was third with 48 points.

AHS had two of the top four runners with Althaus taking second place in 21:23 and Elly Jones finishing fourth in 22:31.9. Addison Pertell (13th, 25:13.8), Pratt (18th, 25:53.7) and Bailey Crouch (19th, 26:39.9) also raced for the Lady Clippers.
