Amboy and Orangeville hooked up in a fierce battle and the Lady Clippers finally prevailed, 2-0, in a varsity softball game on April 24 at the AHS field.

The game was scoreless through four innings before Amboy broke loose with single runs in the fifth and sixth frames to post the victory.

Karlee Doege was almost unhittable in the circle for the Lady Clippers. She allowed just two Orangeville safeties, walked one and struck out three.

Offensively, Delaney Wilhelm stroked a single and a triple and drove in one run. Hallie Nauman singled in the other run. Haley Varga also provided a single and a double, while Bailee Highbarger doubled.

The Lady Clippers had an easier time in disposing of Ashton-Franklin Center, 16-2, on April 26 at Ashton.

Amboy led 4-1 after three innings before blowing the game wide open with eight runs in the fourth inning. AHS added four more tallies in the fifth.

Kylie Highbarger slugged a home run and a single, while Shannon Lytle also walloped a home run to spark the offense. Bailee Highbarger and Varga delivered two singles apiece.

Bailee Highbarger was the starting and winning pitcher, giving up just two hits and striking out six. Doege pitched the final two innings and recorded five strikeouts.

Amboy is 18-1 overall and 12-0 in the conference.
