Volleyball: Lady Clippers battle during long week

AMBOY – Week 5 of the IHSA volleyball season was an action-packed portion of the campaign for the Amboy volleyball team.

The Lady Clippers began the week by hosting non-conference foe, Hinckley-Big Rock, on Monday, Sept. 23. Amboy fell 25-18, 26-24.

Junior Kierra Karlson led the Lady Clippers with eight kills, two blocks, and an ace. Junior Peyton Payne collected five kills and three aces, senior Tyrah Vaessen added 17 digs, four kills, two blocks, and two aces, while junior Jadyn Whelchel assisted 21 times against HBR.

The junior varsity squad defeated HBR 25-14, 25-16 and the freshman split with the Lady Royals, 25-18, 16-25.

Amboy was on the road Tuesday, Sept. 24 as the team defeated Morrison at their place, 25-23, 25-20.

Karlson had eight kills and two blocks, Payne served five aces and spiked two kills, Vaessen had an all-around effort with four kills, an ace, and a block, and senior Emersyn Noble tallied 10 digs.

The junior varsity team were victorious 13-25, 25-13, 25-18 against the Fillies, while the freshman split, 16-25, 25-20.

With the week only half over in terms of volleyball matches, the Lady Clippers fell to Fulton, 25-14, 25-20 Thursday, Sept. 26 at Amboy. The Lady Clippers were swept as the junior varsity lost 25-21, 25-14, and the freshman fell 25-15, 25-15.

Saturday, Sept. 26 saw both the Amboy varsity and junior varsity squads travel to the Polo Tournament.

The varsity netters finished with a 3-5 record on the day, while the junior varsity club took second place with a 6-2 mark in Polo.
