Harrison dives in to new endeavor, Amboy Lions Club parade chairperson

AMBOY – Some know Barb Harrison as the former owner of The Last Alarm.

Or from one of her many endeavors around Amboy.

Now, she can also be known as the Amboy Lions Club Parade Chairperson Barb Harrison as she kicked off her new commitment at the 2024 Amboy Depot Days.

“I think it went fairly well. I was a little overwhelmed at first, but Dave Kemp was there. He’s the one I took over for,” Harrison said. “He helped guide me through some of the lineup. It gets crazy at times over an hour and a half. We were prepared until everyone starts piling in.

“But we got through it well.”

The Amboy Lions Club Parade had 57 entries this year with George and Mona Kaleel serving as the parade’s Grand Marshals.

Many familiar faces could be seen as the 2024 Miss Amboy Alexis Cheever, Amboy City Council members, state politicians, sports teams and cheerleaders, and business and organization heads.

“People have always enjoyed the parade. It’s been going on for several years and I’m happy to be a part of it,” Harrison said. “I never thought I’d be doing this in a million years. My brother, Curtis, is in the Lions Club and my father, Cecil, was in the Lions Club for a long, long time.

“I’m kind of following in their footsteps.”
