AMBOY – It’s very tough to beat a talented team any time. But, when you play the same team again in three days, it’s twice as hard.

The Amboy Lady Clippers were able to accomplish that task when they took down Mendota, 71-45, on Nov. 26 at the AHS gym. Amboy had beaten Mendota just three days earlier in the championship game of the Oregon Tipoff Tournament.

The Lady Clippers jumped out to a 13-5 first-quarter lead. Mendota came back in the second period to score 17 points, but Amboy’s offense also heated up and it was able to tack on 23 points to take a 36-22 halftime lead. The count stood at 54-31 in Amboy’s favor after three frames.

Mallory Powers led a balanced scoring attack with 20 points. Powers’ long-range three-pointers accounted for 15 of her points. She also dished out four assists.

Kyleigh Donna dropped in 15 points and led the Lady Clippers with 10 rebounds and three blocked shots. Abi Payne provided 14 points, seven assists and four steals, while Brianna Blaine hit double figures with 10 points.

Also contributing to the victory were Gabby Jones (six points, five rebounds), Ashley Althaus (three points, nine rebounds, four assists) and Olivia Dinges (three points, four assists, six rebounds).
