AMBOY - Amboy got a superb pitching performance from Bailee Highbarger and generated just enough offense to claim a 2-0 victory over Durand in varsity softball action on April 17 at Durand.
Highbarger sailed through seven innings and allowed just two hits in posting the shutout. She struck out 11 and did not issue a walk.
The Lady Clippers scored the only run they needed in the top of the first and then added an insurance tally in the sixth.
Shannon Lytle ripped a pair of doubles and drove in one run, while Savannah Ikens singled in the other run. Highbarger added a double.

Amboy and Durand hooked up in another tight game and the Lady Clippers prevailed again, 3-2, on April 19 at the AHS field.
Trailing 1-0 in the bottom of the sixth, Amboy scored a pair of runs to take a 2-1 lead. Durand pushed across a run in the top of the seventh to tie and the Lady Clippers did not score in the bottom of the inning, so the game went to the eighth.
After Durand failed to score in the top of the frame, Amboy won the game in dramatic fashion when Lytle walloped a walk-off home run in the bottom of the eighth.
Highbarger was the winning pitcher, giving up just two hits in eight frames. She struck out six and walked none.
Highbarger helped her cause at the plate with a single and a triple, while Ikens added two singles.

Amboy kept up its winning ways with a 9-7 verdict over Bureau Valley on April 23 at Manlius.
Bureau Valley held a 6-2 lead after two innings, but Amboy’s bats came alive and Highbarger silenced the Storm the rest of the way in a relief role.
The Lady Clippers (6-4, 5-3) scored twice in the third inning, once in the fourth and then pushed four runs across in the fifth to take a 9-6 lead.
Highbarger fired blanks at Bureau Valley for four straight innings before the home team scored a harmless run in the bottom of the seventh. Ikens was the starting pitcher for Amboy.
Mackenzie Payne had a perfect day at the plate for Amboy, clouting a grand slam home run in the fifth to give her team the lead. She also had two singles and a double. Highbarger also had four hits (three singles, double), while other Lady Clippers swinging hot bats were Alison O’Rourke (three singles), Ikens (two singles), Summer Bulfer (two singles) and Dani Hochstatter (single, double).
