AMBOY — The Amboy American Legion Post #453 will be holding its annual Memorial Day ceremony in Amboy at the Veterans Park at 10 a.m., on Monday, May 31.
The guest speaker for the annual ceremony will Mike Hickey. Included in the ceremony are prayer by Chaplain Tom Dickinson, Gettysburg address by Dana Merriman, and reading of General Logan’s orders by Kelton Schwamberger. Merriman and Schwamberger will also perform Taps.
The Legion members will then head to Sublette for the Memorial Day ceremony at the Ellice Dinges Center at 11 a.m., on Monday, May 31.
The guest speaker for the ceremony will be Ann Register from Flags of Freedom in Princeton. The “Flags of Freedom” committee, a non-profit organization, has been re-established in July of 2016 in order to support the four large flags in Princeton, in Bureau County. These 30 foot x 60 foot flags are hung from 153 foot poles at the intersection of Interstate 80 and Route 26. The committee is working to raise funds to ensure that these flags remain flying.
The Post will also conduct a third Memorial Day ceremony at Woodhaven Lakes at noon, on Monday, May 31.
Poppy Sales
This Memorial Day weekend volunteers will be in various locations in Amboy and Sublette selling poppies on both Friday and Saturday.
Please show your appreciation to our veterans and those now serving active duty by being generous with your donation and by wearing your poppy proudly.
