AMBOY — Five students from area high schools were presented the DAR Good Citizen Award by the Rochelle Chapter Daughters of the American Revolution. These outstanding students are selected by a process that involves both their teachers and members of their senior class because they exemplify the traits of a Good Citizen: Dependability, Service, Leadership, and Patriotism. They also have the option of completing an essay in a timed, proctored format. The winner of the essay contest is forwarded to the District, and may be further selected to compete at the State or National Level. This year’s winners are: Brianna Blaine - Amboy High School; Garrett Sage (Rochelle Chapter’s essay contest winner) - Ashton Franklin Center High School; Claudia Reckamp - Oregon HS; Afi Gati - Rochelle Township High School; and Julia Orlando - Stillman Valley High School. Each student was presented a certificate, lapel pin and gift card.
