LEE COUNTY — Amboy High School graduate Seth Wiggins announced his candidacy for State Representative of the 90th district late last month and is running unopposed in the Democratic primary.

Wiggins and his family live in Dixon. He is the father of a kind, thoughtful third grader and engaged to be married to his talented, caring wife-to-be in November, 2020. 

He was raised in Dixon and Amboy, and graduated from Amboy High School in 2005. After high school, he attended Sauk Valley Community College before joining the active duty United States Air Force. He served four years active duty as an airborne Arabic Linguist, deploying to Kandahar, Afghanistan, where he completed 144 combat sorties as military intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR). 

After active duty, Wiggins continued service in the United States Air Force Reserve growing experience in the Aviation Resource Management career field. He attended Northern Illinois University to complete his Bachelor’s Degree in Political Science with an emphasis in Public Law. 

Following his undergraduate studies, Wiggins used his GI Bill to attend law school at Northern Illinois University College of Law, where he earned numerous national accolades and graduated cum laude. While in law school, Wiggins transferred his service to the Wisconsin Air National Guard, where he continues service as a Technical Sergeant (E-6) at the 128th Air Refueling Wing, General Mitchell Air Reserve Base, Milwaukee, Wis. 

After being admitted to the Bar, Wiggins started his legal career as a criminal prosecutor in the Winnebago County State’s Attorney’s Office, commuting to Rockford. He was next employed as an Assistant State’s Attorney in Sterling, for the Whiteside County State’s Attorney’s Office, before leaving public law for private practice as an associate attorney at The Law Office of Allison B. Fagerman, P.C. 

Wiggins is a state-certified volunteer advocate for survivors of sexual assault, certified through training at Rockford Sexual Assault Counseling in Rockford. He is pursuing certification to become a volunteer advocate for survivors of domestic violence through the YWCA of Sauk Valley as well. Since 2018, Wiggins serves as a mayoral appointee on the Dixon City Planning Commission in his hometown of Dixon, researching petitions in regard to zoning and re-zoning within the Dixon city limits. 

​Wiggins is shaped by life experience as well as his observations of how Springfield policies affect his family, friends, and co-workers.

He is the son of a small business owner, lineman, farmer, and a nurse. He is the grandson of a police officer, administrative assistant, lineman, and a farmer. His siblings work in wind energy, healthcare, education, hydro utility, and railroad engineering.
