AMBOY — On Friday, April 27, 385 Lee County fifth grade students converged on the Lee County 4-H Center & Fairgrounds for the 12thAnnual Ag Expo, presented by the Lee County Farm Bureau, Lee County Ag in the Classroom, Lee County Soil & Water Conservation District, and University of Illinois Extension-Lee County.

The goal of the event is to make agriculture relevant to today’s youth through discussion of science, technology and careers as it relates to bringing food and fiber into consumers’ homes. This event began in 2008 and continues to create learning opportunities for students, teachers and parents about agriculture, food and natural resources.

Presenters from local agri-businesses, agencies, farms and schools will be on hand to discuss topics ranging from livestock (horses, beef, dairy, swine, sheep, poultry and goats) to biofuels and vegetable production. Other presentations focus on soil, gardening, bee-keeping, 4-H, soybeans and aerial application. Presenters come from DelMonte, Atkinson's Trucking, CHS, Nutrients for Life Foundation, Monsanto-Ashton and include FFA members from Ashton-Franklin Center FFA Chapter, Lee Co. 4-H members and local farmers.
