AMBOY — William C. "W.C." Kessel, 85, of Amboy, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehab. He was born June 28, 1932, in Amboy, the son of William T. and Mildred (Conderman) Kessel.

AMBOY — William C. "W.C." Kessel, 85, of Amboy, died Tuesday, Nov. 7, 2017, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehab. He was born June 28, 1932, in Amboy, the son of William T. and Mildred (Conderman) Kessel.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m., on Friday, Nov. 10, 2017, in Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church, 2035 Illinois Route 26, in Dixon, with Pastor David Andermann, officiating. Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon with Military Graveside Rites by the Amboy American Legion. Visitation will be held on Thursday, from 2 – 4 p.m. and 6 – 8 p.m. in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy, and also on Friday, from 10 a.m. until time of service in the church. 

Bill was a lifelong farmer, and had also worked at the Dixon Correctional Center for 18 years retiring as a Lieutenant. He was also a Veteran of the Army during the Korean Conflict.

Bill was a member of Christ Our Savior Lutheran Church in Dixon, the Amboy American Legion, the Lee County Farm Bureau, the Lee County 4-H Board, and the Prairie Repose Cemetery Board.

He married Joan Meyer in Sterling, on Oct. 17, 1954.

He was preceded in death by his parents; one brother, Bernard Kessel.

Survivors include his wife; one daughter, Ann (Steve) Gronlund, of Monroe Center;  two sons, Dean Kessel, of Dixon and Craig (Christine) Kessel, of Amboy; six grandchildren, Eric (Maegan) Gronlund, Lisa (Mimmo) Moscato, Gregory Kessel, Jeremy Kessel, Cory (Danielle Jaso) Kessel, and Danniale (Deryke) Gallacher; three great-grandchildren, Mackenzie Kessel, Makai King, and Madison Gronlund; two sisters, Aleta (Fred) Faber, of LaMoille and Betty Payne, of Walnut;  and sister-in-law Fran Kessel of Amboy.
