BELVIDERE — Ronald William Laws, 81, of Belvidere, died Nov. 17, 2021, in Belvidere, in his home, surrounded by family and friends.

He was born July 6, 1940, in Amboy, son to William J. and Irma Grace (Petticrew) Laws. He graduated high school and married his sweetheart, Sharonne Ann Haley June 15, 1963, in Amboy and served in the Army as a Wheeled and Track Vehicle Mechanic. In April 1964 he was assigned to the 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment, Troop D, 1st Cav Reconnaissance Squadron in Germany. Ronald was a former Baptist and converted to Catholicism and attended St. Patrick Parish in Amboy. He belonged to the Flora Grange, Boone County Pomna Grange, UAW Local 1268, National Independent Concessionaires Association “NICA,” International Independent Showmen’s Association “ISSA,” and The Loyal Order of Moose in Belvidere. He enjoyed working overtime at Chrysler, traveling to Florida during the winter, and making money with their Concessions Food stand at The Boone County Fair.

Ronald is loved and will be dearly missed by his wife, Sharonne; sons, Phillip (Candy) Laws, of Belvidere and Brian (Suzan) Laws, of South Beloit; sister, Lanieta (Laws) Stiles, of Dixon; grandchildren, Matthew, Megan, Alexander (Hannah) Katelyn, Abigail and Sarah Laws; step- grandchildren, James and Samantha Thibodeault; great-grandchildren, Violet and Rose Laws; and step-great-grandchildren, Cole Thibodeault.

He is preceded in death by his father, William J. Laws, on Dec. 14, 1998; mother, Irma Grace (Petticrew) Laws, on Dec. 23, 1969; sister, Faye E. (Laws) (Chesley) Leffelman, on April 2, 2013; brother-in-law Ronald G. Chelsey, on Nov. 7, 199; brother-in-law, Eugene A. “Gene” Leffelman, March 1, 2021; brother- in-law, John Stiles, April 7, 2020; and beloved family dogs, Laddy, Lobo, Sandy and Maxine.

Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., Monday, Nov. 22, 2021, at Anderson Funeral and Cremation Services, 218 W. Hurlbut Ave., Belvidere. A funeral service will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday, Nov. 23 at the Funeral Home. Rev. Brian Geary will officiate. Burial at Belvidere Cemetery. The family would also like to give a special thanks to caregiver, Shelly Nordmoe Gardono.
