DIXON — Richard E. Burgess, 87, of Dixon, died Saturday, Feb. 25, 2017, at Dixon Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Dixon. He worked for Dixon Co-Op for 40 years prior to his retirement in 1991.
Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., on Tuesday, Feb. 28, 2017, at Preston-Schilling Funeral Home, Dixon. Funeral services will be at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, March 1, 2017, at Grace United Methodist Church, Dixon, with the Rev. Marilyn Nolan, pastor, officiating. Burial with full military graveside services provided by the combined veterans organization will be at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.
Richard was born on July 21, 1929, in Dixon, the son of C.L. and Marie (Koehler) Burgess. He married Shirley Johnson on Sept. 15, 1951, in Dixon. He served in the United States Army during the Korean War and was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Dixon. Richard enjoyed home gardening and antique cars and was an avid Chicago Cubs and Chicago Bulls fan.
He is survived by his wife, Shirley Burgess; five sons, Gary (Rena) Burgess, Richard (Kathy) Burgess, Wayne Burgess, Dale (Sue) Burgess, and Brad Burgess, all of Dixon; one brother, Art (Lois) Burgess, of Harmon; one sister-in-law, Helen Burgess, of Princeton; 10 grandchildren, Nathan (Brook Frank) Burgess, Michelle (James) Elliott, Jenny Burgess, Matt (Lindsay) Burgess, Kim (Mike) Peterson, Joshua Burgess, Lucas Burgess, Jennifer Hamilton, Jamie (Dustin Smith) Hamilton, Michael Hamilton; and 16 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Hubert Burgess.
In lieu of flowers, a memorial has been established.
