DIXON — John Richard “Dick” Mills, 72, of Dixon, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Dixon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Dixon. He worked at the Illinois Department of Transportation for 45 years, prior to his retirement.

John Richard “Dick” Mills

DIXON — John Richard “Dick” Mills, 72, of Dixon, died Wednesday, Sept. 6, 2017, at Dixon Rehabilitation and Health Care Center in Dixon. He worked at the Illinois Department of Transportation for 45 years, prior to his retirement.

Visitation will be from 4 – 7 p.m., on Monday, Sept. 11, 2017, First Presbyterian Church in Dixon.  Funeral services will be 11:00 a.m., on Tuesday, Sept. 12, 2017, at the church, with the Rev. David Spaulding, pastor, officiating.

Dick was born January 8, 1945, in Savanna, the son of Robert and Charlotte (McKinley) Mills. He married Cheryl G. Grosrenaud on March 14, 1970, in McHenry.  Dick was an avid bowler, enjoyed playing cards, mainly Euchre and watching sports. 

Dick is survived by his wife, Cheryl Mills, of Dixon; one son, Todd R. (Cindy) Mills, of Crystal River, Fla.; two daughters, Laura (Michael) Henricks, of St. Peters, Mo., and Lisa Mills, of Sterling; his mother, Charlotte Mills, of Mt. Carroll; three grandchildren, Ryan Mills, Eric Canas, Devin Henricks; six brothers, Carlton (Joan) Mills, of Urbana, Peter Mills, of Chicago, James (Sharon) Mills, of Savanna, Douglas (Cathy) Mills, of Alachua, Fla., Andrew Mills, of Thomson, Phillip (Lisa) Mills, of Savanna; three sisters, Susan (Jackson) Greathouse, of Spencer, W.V., Jane (Dr. Charles) Ciorba, of Fairfax, Va., Debra (Darrold) Kennedy, of Gifford; and many nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by his father.

Burial will follow at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens in Dixon.

A memorial has been established.
