AMBOY — Eugene W. "Gene" Leffelman, 80, of Amboy, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Tamer was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Sublette, the son of Francis and Clara (King) Leffelman.

AMBOY — Eugene W. "Gene" Leffelman, 80, of Amboy, died Sunday, March 19, 2017, at OSF St. Anthony Medical Center in Rockford. Tamer was born Dec. 12, 1936, in Sublette, the son of Francis and Clara (King) Leffelman.

Funeral services will begin with a 10:30 a.m. Prayer service held on Friday, March 24, 2017, in the Mihm-Jones Funeral Home in Amboy followed by an 11 a.m. Mass of Christian Burial in St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy with the Rev. Timothy Draper, Pastor, officiating. Burial will follow in St. Patrick Cemetery in Amboy. Visitation will be held from 3 – 7 p.m., on Thursday, March 23, in the funeral home with the Rosary recited at 2:30 p.m.

He had worked at Jones-Berry Lumber Company in Amboy prior to his retirement.

Gene was a member of St. Patrick Catholic Church in Amboy; The American Pheasant and Water Fowl, and was a charter member of the Illinois Game and Pet Breeders Society.

He married JoAnn Friel at St. Patrick Church in Maytown April 21, 1956.

Gene was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother in infancy.

Survivors include his wife; children, Douglas (Kim) Leffelman, of Palatine, Denise (Ken) Sexton, of Sterling, Regina (Don) Poquette, of Bartlesville, Okla., Jack (Barb) Leffelman, of Amboy, Tom (Teresa) Leffelman, of Mendota;  14 grandchildren: Christopher, Michelle, and Becky (Erick Schiavone) Leffelman, Christine (Tito) Cantu, Nichole Karstens, Scott and Katie Hayen,  Brandon, Bryan, and Danielle Poquette, Emily (Luke) Zimmerman, Kelsey (Justin) Smothers, Spencer (Gina Mugavero) Leffelman, and Tara Leffelman;  2 step-grandchildren Kristy (Jake) Krajewski and Josh (Monica) Grace;  10 great-grandchildren, Rylan, Payton, Jasa, Alex, Breanna, Ariana, Kaylee, Kennedi, Clayton, and Bree Ann;  2 step-great grandchildren, Aiden and Gracin;  one great-great-grandson, Owen;  two brothers, Melvin Leffelman and Ron (Eileen) Leffelman, both of Dixon; three sisters, Elaine Henkel of Mendota, Velma Quest, of Sublette, and Doris Latta, of Amboy.
